We can collect your foreign debt

If you have debt in another country, the authorities there can ask us for help in collecting your debt.

The help we can provide depends on what agreement Denmark has with that particular country. The general rule is that we collect foreign debt according to the same rules as those that govern our Danish debt collection activities.

You will always receive written notice from us of which foreign debt we intend to collect.

We can do this because the Danish state has entered into agreements with other countries through which we help each other collect debt across borders. Examples of agreements are the EU Recovery Directive, the Nordic Mutual Assistance Convention and selected double taxation conventions which contain provisions on debt collection.

The agreements help ensure that the debt is paid correctly, even if you move abroad or live in another country than where your debt was established.
