Example 1 – You can apply for debt cancellation on the basis of fixed requirements
- You have received social assistance benefits for three years as from 1 April 2019.
- You have thereafter been in full-time employment as from 1 April 2022. According to the debt cancellation rules, employment is counted as from 1 April 2023.
You can apply for debt cancellation on the basis of fixed requirements on 1 April 2025, when the requirement of 24 months’ employment is fulfilled.
Example 2 – You can apply for debt cancellation on the basis of fixed requirements
- You have received social assistance benefits for two years and four months as from 1 February 2021.
- You have thereafter been in full-time employment as from 1 June 2023.
You can apply for debt cancellation on the basis of fixed requirements on 1 June 2025, when the requirement of 24 months’ employment is fulfilled.
Example 3 – You cannot apply for debt cancellation on the basis of fixed requirements
- You have not received social assistance benefits.
- You were in education for two years and two months as from 1 February 2021 and up to 1 April 2023. You therefore fulfil the 24 months’ employment requirement.
You cannot apply for debt cancellation on the basis of fixed requirements, as you did not receive social assistance benefits within the last six years before your education.
