You can apply for deferral

You can apply for deferral if something has happened that makes it difficult for you to pay your debt for a while.

As a general rule, you can have your payment deferred by up to six months if you have continuously shown a willingness to repay your debt and are facing

• special social circumstances or
• suddenly occurred/unforeseen expenses.

Special social circumstances

• Recent divorce
• Recent death in immediate family
• Sudden debilitating illness
• Temporarily without income, e.g. because you are serving a sentence (if you are able to pay the debt later).

Suddenly occurred/unforeseen expenses, depending on the size of the expense in relation to your finances

• Dentist
• Medication (one-off payment, start-up treatment, emergency treatment)
• Auto repair workshop bill, if a car is necessary for maintaining income
• Repairs to house, household goods that are necessary and not covered by insurance
• Theft – digital theft, which means no access to, for example, your bank account.
